Pamela Brunson was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She began piano studies at age seven with Hortense Hockett, one of the leading teachers in Wichita, who gave her a wonderful set of skills for later starting to teach young students. Beginning in seventh grade she began winning awards while the accompanist for both Chapel and Chorus at Wichita Collegiate School. These accompanist positions continued through her senior year. While at Wichita Collegiate she four times received the highest awards given for music as well as The Headmaster’s Award. Following high school, she attended college, graduating from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas. She later continued her piano studies with Guy Johnson at Friends University in Wichita.

Ms Brunson began teaching in Colorado Springs in 1987. To enhance her skill in teaching the art of piano, she studied for six years with Colorado State University-Pueblo professors Frank Cedrone and Victoria Markowski, duo pianists, and James Duncan, head of Keyboard Studies also at Colorado State University-Pueblo. In 1995, she began a collaboration with Dr. Michael Baron, an internationally known concert pianist and one of the country’s top piano instructors from Florida Gulf Coast University. Ms. Brunson has also completed continuing studies in Italy.

In addition to standing as one of the area’s finest private piano instructors, Ms. Brunson continues involvement in the professional music community. She is President and Founder of the Rocky Mountain Music Alliance, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the advancement of classical music in the Pikes Peak Region which is in part fostered through an annual concert series. To grow her legacy of fine teaching, she mentors and instructs other area teachers using a self-developed curriculum focused on artistry called Etudes. She also serves as an adjudicator when her time allows and has led master classes for over 15 years. Other professional roles have included: past Member, Board of Development at Hardin-Simmons University, current Member MTNA, CSMTA, PPMTA and past member of The Guild (American College of Musicians).

Her students are recognized for their impressive level of artistry and have been award winners at local, state, and national competitions and festivals. A number of them have gone on to obtain degrees in music or establish careers as piano teachers or church pianists. Many have been offered college and university music scholarships for piano performance and music education at institutions around the country.
Ms. Brunson has a unique gift for encouraging and garnering musical excellence. She builds relationships with her students in order to tailor their piano instruction to their unique needs. She has a comfortable presence yet challenges her students to pursue excellence, both technically and in artistic expression. She has a broad depth of appreciation for classical music and brings the composers to life through knowledge of their history and circumstances surrounding their music. Artistry is her passion and she is able to communicate practical ways for her students to incorporate and improve artistry in their playing. Her goal is to have each of her students truly enjoy music and to enjoy sharing it with others in whichever venue they feel led. She seeks students of all ages and levels who strive for excellence and who will work hard to achieve it.
